Cultural Enrichment in DTLA

Hi friends, Joan here!

Long time no see! But I just went to a new ramen spot over the weekend and wanted to quickly share about it.

One of the things that I love about LA, especially Downtown LA, is that you can transport yourself to different countries within a 1 mile radius. I brought my friend, Elena, who’s originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia, and has not visited DTLA yet.

As I was googling ramen spots that had vegan options in Little Tokyo, I stumbled upon Okiboru House of Tsukemen. It’s summer, it’s hot… and tsukemen will hit the spot! Heh. That rhymed. Anyway… Okiboru was located in China Town instead.

Welcome to China… Town

DTLA Date

Hey everyone!

Joan here. A while back, I went on a date with some guy in Downtown Los Angeles. He had never explored DTLA so I showed him all the cool spots: The Last Bookstore, Angel’s Flight, Grand Central Market, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Grand Park, and of course, Little Tokyo. We discovered an amazing place called Boba 7, hidden behind a thai restaurant, where you can get ALCOHOLIC BOBA!

Meet My Wang

Hey all,

This is another late post but I cannot move forward with my blog without introducing you to… my Wang. Jonathan Wang.

He’s charming, he’s funny, he falls asleep in the blink of an eye (literally), AND he loves noodles as much as we all do. We all love our Wang!

Backdraft

Hey friends, Joan here.

Remember that movie, Backdraft? With Kurt Russell, William Baldwin and Robert de Niro? Well, I never saw it. But I remember that one part of the tram ride at Universal Studios, where you’re in a roaring warehouse inferno. Anyway, that’s besides the point.

I recently went back to Ikemen Dip Ramen in Little Tokyo with a friend. When we arrived, the restaurant was pretty empty. The same server I had last time was working that night, and there was a ginger fellow cooking behind the bar. They both wore cool hats, by the way. We both ordered the Backdraft Dip Ramen. (See, I had a point! Sorta…)

The Blog Post You Have All Been Waiting For!

Hi everyone!

Joan here. Lately, people have been asking me about my favorite ramen places. After having realized that we’ve been to more than twenty ramen places so far, I think this is a good time for me to start one of many blogs on our current favorites. This list will be updated every several months or so. Each restaurant listed will include a link to a blog or two about it. I hope this will come in handy anytime you’re out looking for ramen!

Hey! Tanya here. My input might run a bit small but I look forward to trying out new places.

Long, Lost Friend

Hi everyone!

I really thought I was caught up with the blogs. But I had completely forgotten about a pretty recent ramen run. As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed today, I came across someone, who happened to have gone on a ramen run with me!

His name is Shawn. Yeah, he’s one of those weird ones that spell their name “Shawn” instead of the traditional and more masculine spelling of “Sean.”

Anyway, I’ve known Shawn since the 7th grade, back in Hawaii at Waipahu Intermediate School. My memories of Shawn were not pleasant ones. He was very mean to me, along with his group of friends. They used to make fun of how scrawny I was and called me String Bean. They also use to pull on my bra strap when I wasn’t looking. But every time they did that, they found themselves on the ground.

This was Shawn in the 7th grade. He had a penis haircut.
